After our stay in Grenoble we travelled about 2 hours to Lyon to stay with a friend’s grandma; what a lovely and welcoming older lady! One really neat thing about travelling is that you can make contacts all over the world and then possibly return one day to visit them (I had met her 7 years ago on my previous visit to France). We stayed with Marie-Francoise for 2 nights. She fed us delicious traditional meals and showed us around the marvellous city. Lyon is situated between 2 rivers and has two hills that overlook them. It has considerable history and many interesting sights to explore. We spent the day visiting huge beautiful basilicas and churches, walking the narrow, cobblestone streets of Old Lyon, and enjoying some very yummy treats along the way. As Canadians, our impression of “old” is so different than that of Europeans; our country is so young compared to countries here and the history does not even come close to comparing. It is absolutely astonishing how enormous and intricate buildings here are.
