I suppose it can be said that weddings will either bring out the best in people or the worst. It's an exciting and sometimes stressful time in a girls life as we try to make it the "perfect day". I spent the past 5 days in Marietta, Georgia for one of my best friend's weddings, who is now - Vanessa Chupp! (Congratulations Ness & Kyle)
It was my first time visiting the sunny southern state of Georgia and it was definitely a wonderful experience. After being greeted at the airport by the lovely couple themselves, and making a brief pitstop to try some reknowned Georgia peaches and boiled peanuts (DELICIOUS!) we were welcomed by a beautiful family with delightful accents. For the next few days, as we enjoyed preparing for a wonderful wedding, we got to know a little bit about the southern way of life...
- there is always food available (such specialities as peach cobbler, pecan pie and chicken cooked in a variety of ways)
- if you ask to use the " washroom" in a public restaurant they will think that you are asking to take a shower; the proper term is "restroom"
-"y'all" is a fabulous word used as many times in a conversation as possible and "all y'all" is plural
- "I tell you what" is the most fun phrase to say in the thickest southern accent you can muster up
- the sun is always shining and everyone's always smiling
- generosity is an understatement... You will be offered a place to sleep in a beautiful home, with a plentiful breakfast and be provided with a tour of the city by absolute strangers
- it seems as though everyone knows about how wonderful and mighty our God is and is not afraid to share their stories with you.
Georgia is a great place, with wonderful people and astounding hospitality. It was the most perfect destination for a beautiful wedding and the beginning of a lovely life for two amazing individuals.
